Starting Your Own Blog – Part 1

Posted by: Jakki

The first question you might be asking is why have a blog at all?

A good reason is that blogging can enhance and support all of your online communications, business or personal.

Why do people or businesses start blogging?

The answer is for a variety of reasons, but what it boils down to is to tell the world online that you are there.

Blogging actually started about a decade ago as a kind of online journal, where people shared information about their lives and it has grown from there, using the same premise, but is now used more and more to share business information.

Blogging has now become associated with online marketing. Bloggers not only publish content reflecting their thoughts for the day or share the projects they are working on they also advertise their products, services and create an open line of communication with their audience.

The use of blogging has led to people the world over finding an alternative way to make money from home.

Blog, short for weblog, or web blog, allows you to easily publish information without the need to know any kind of coding and incorporates easy point and click style publishing with a similar layout to word processing software. The information you publish can be posts or pages and these are organized by the blogging software and you can even schedule content for a specific date and time which makes blogging even easier.

To start and run a successful blog first decide on what you want your blog to achieve.

It could be:

  • To establish a client base interested in your services
  • To market your products and services
  • To provide an authority website in your particular niche
  • To develop you as your brand and build the ‘know, like and trust’ factor
  • To offer reviews of products or services as an affiliate

Any type of business can have a blog and once set up they are easy to maintain.

Blogs can help create strong customer relationships since your target market can easily and directly communicate with your business.

This kind of opportunity is hard to resist since a strong customer relationship can eventually lead to lasting trust for your product and services and help increase in your revenue.

If you are running a business, there is good chance that your competition is blogging about their products and services. This makes it easy for you to check out the competition and what their clients’ preferences are closer than ever before.

But blogging also gives you an opportunity to have a share of that pie.

WordPress, which is widely believed to be the best blogging platform, because it has excellent search engine optimisation (SEO) functionality built in, can be set up easily from your web hosting account. Not quite one click but not much more.
